Going Green

For us, green is not a project – it’s our corporate lifestyle. We help people take up less space in their environment. Less space = lower costs and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. We have products that are manufactured and extracted within 500 miles of our territory. We have products that are Greenguard certified and are 80-90% recycled content. We reuse, repurpose and repaint all in the name of green. And we’re not just talking sustainability.

P2 Tree Campaign – Anytime we do a significant marketing print run, we counter our impact by planting 50 trees to help the environment. (Join us – www.americanforests.org)

Green provision – We partner with some of the industry leaders in green products and processes. In fact, many of our products can count towards LEED points – some more than others. Learn more.

Reuse – We are often able to refurbish and redeploy our solutions for other uses.

Recycle products – When redeploying a product is not an option, we strip it down, reuse what we can and recycle the steel.

Recycle cardboard/paper – Our products typically arrive in massive amounts of cardboard, all of which is recycled – typically over 30 tons of cardboard a year! We also recycle over 100 tons of paper per year.

Office recycling – From paper to aluminum, we recycle all that we can in our offices. Each team member does their part.

Spacesaver

Steel
In the manufacturing process for all Spacesaver products, domestic carbon steel is purchased. Both hot rolled and cold rolled carbon steel materials are produced at the mills, using either Electric Arc Furnace (AEF) or Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF). This material is made up of anywhere between 35% to 88% scrap steel at any given time. The calculated average amount of scrap content used on an annual basis is 74%. This average is comprised of approximately:

Paint
Spacesaver uses a powder-coat paint finish on their steel products. Powder coatings do not contain or generate any appreciable concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) as determined in accordance with EPA Test Method 24.

Wood
Spacesaver uses a variety of woods in their products including Particleboard, MDF, Melamine, and Aspen Plywood. Every product, with the exception of Aspen Plywood, is made from 100% recycled content. Spacesaver’s standard MDF board meets or exceeds regulations set forward by the California Air Resources Board, also known as CARB, which dictates formaldehyde emissions levels. All Particle Board and melamine shipped after Nov 1, 2010 was CARB II certified, which was the second and strictest of the two phases.

Reuse
Spacesaver product is frequently repurposed and reused. They move mobile systems and reconfigure them to meet new needs. Steel lives forever. If they don’t reuse it, they recycle it.

Hamilton Sorter
Hamilton Sorter modular casework was built to be moved and reused. How green is that?! The product is Greenguard certified, and FSC core is available on the product. Standard core is 100% recycled content. Some of our offices are also within 500 miles of both extraction and manufacturing sites.
